Playback offers a native YouTube integration. You can connect your YouTube channel by logging in with your Google account, making it possible to start streaming to YouTube directly from Playback — no need to visit YouTube each session to start your broadcast.
Coming soon for YouTube integration
- YouTube chat → View messages and Super Chats in Playback, spotlight them to your room, and make them visible to your audience.
- Scheduling → Schedule upcoming YouTube streams directly from Playback without visiting YouTube Studio.
How does simulcast work on Playback?
Playback uses RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) to broadcast live Playback streams to other platforms. RTMP is a standard protocol supported by many applications, including popular live streaming platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and Twitter.
Add YouTube as a simulcast destination on Playback
Next you will need to add your YouTube stream key to Playback. You’ll only need to do this once.
- Go to your Playback room and either:
- Open the room Settings —> Simulcast or:
- Open the Studio from the bottom-left navigation and go to Outputs → Simulcast
- Under “Add a destination,” click YouTube and log in with your Google account to link your channel. Once connected, simply toggle YouTube ON before you go live. No need to repeat setup each time.
See the Using the Playback Studio guide for a full walkthrough.
Click on “Select All” before Continue
Alternatively, use the “Custom RTMP” option to type the Stream URL and stream key you got from YouTube and click “Add destination” to save it.
Get your YouTube stream key
YouTube provides users with a stream key so they can use streaming software like Playback to create a live YouTube broadcast.
- From YouTube’s home page click the “create” button and choose “go live.”
- In the YouTube live studio you will find your private stream key and the stream URL for YouTube.
Start a simulcast
Before going live, open the Simulcast section in the Studio panel to review your destinations. Make sure your YouTube (or other) destination is toggled on so it starts automatically when you go live.
- While you’re preparing to go live on Playback, you can choose YouTube (or other) from your saved simulcast destinations.
You can also start and stop simulcasts after you are live on Playback by opening the simulcast menu.
- After Playback starts sending your stream to YouTube, you will need to go to your YouTube live studio to create a live broadcast. Like when you first got your stream key, you will get to the live studio from the YouTube home page and clicking “create” then “go live.” Your studio should show your Playback stream and your YouTube broadcast will start. You can edit your broadcast title and details from the “Edit” menu in your YouTube live studio.
How do I end my simulcast?
You can stop simulcasting from Playback by turning off a simulcast destination from the simulcast menu or by ending your Playback event entirely.
Will my simulcasted stream include NBA and MLB broadcasts?
No. If you are simulcasting a stream that features an NBA or MLB game, Playback will use the NBA and MLB Gamecast template to show the score and game clock without the broadcast of the game.
