Room Subscriptions started rolling out for creators on February 12.
What are Room Subscriptions?
Room Subscriptions allow members to purchase premium ongoing benefits in a room while supporting the room’s creators.
How Room Subscriptions work
- If a room wishes to sell subscriptions, they can set a price and begin offering premium benefits to their paying monthly subscribers.
- Room subscribers earn special recognition in the room with visual distinction and prioritization in chat, viewer lists and stages etc.
- Room creators can configure subscriber-only benefits like subscriber events, subscriber chat, subscriber stage and subscriber replays.
- Room creators receive Room Subscriptions revenue via their selected payout method.
- After payment processor* fees, 70% goes to the room and 30% goes to Playback.
- *Stripe takes ~3% on web, Apple takes ~15% on iOS, Google takes ~15% on Android
Launch a Room Subscription
At this time, Room Subscriptions are available to rooms participating in the Playback Creator Partner program. Learn more about the Playback Creator Partner Program here.
As a room owner, go to your room Settings and open Room Subscriptions under the Monetization section. Tap “Create subscription” and add your subscription details. You can only create one subscription per room now. Playback will be adding support for multiple subscription tiers soon.
You can customize the appearance of your subscribers in your room by uploading a badge and selecting a color.
You can set any price between $3-$200 USD per month.
Mobile app store pricing
Due to the App Store and Play Store’s 15% revenue share, Playback will automatically set a higher price for mobile app purchasers.
Visitors can purchase Room Subscriptions if they are located in one of the following countries: Countries Supported for Purchases.
You can save a draft for your new subscription and then publish it whenever you’re ready. Your subscriber benefits will be live immediately on all platforms after you publish but your subscription will not be purchasable in the mobile app until Apple and Google review it. This can take 24-48 hours.
Room Subscriber recognition
Room Subscribers stand out from normal room members, with emphasis in the viewer list, chat and elsewhere. Creators can see how long someone has been a subscriber, helping them engage with their most loyal supporters.
Manage Room Subscriber benefits
Creators can choose how and when to offer exclusive Room Subscriber benefits. During a stream, creators can open the subscriber access controls to toggle subscriber benefits in the moment.
Creators can also configure subscriber access when scheduling an event or when editing a Replay.
Subscriber events: Rooms can host streams that can only be viewed by subscribers.
Subscriber chat: Rooms can choose to only allow subscribers to send chat messages.
Subscriber stage: Rooms can choose to only allow subscribers to request to join the stage.
Subscriber Replay: Rooms can make specific stream replays only viewable for subscribers.
FAQ

As a creator, how do I de-activate my subscriptions?
Go to your Room Subscriber section of your room settings and submit a de-activation. Note: Playback will stop accepting new subscriber purchases and renewing existing subscriptions, but you will still be offering subscriber benefits until everyone’s subscription reaches it’s end date.
