Playback live streams are available to watch in two formats: Live Mode and Rewind Mode.
Live Mode
Live Mode on Playback has zero delay so participants can interact live with no latency like a video chat. In Live Mode, our partner broadcasts (NBA, MLB) are the most live streams available in the world — yes, even more live than the official apps.
The tradeoff is that Live Mode requires a stronger internet connection.
Rewind Mode
Viewers can switch to Rewind Mode to get a classic buffered live stream. This mode will provide smoother video if you don’t have a strong internet connection.
Buffering works by preloading portions of the video, adding 5-10 seconds of delay compared to Live Mode. Buffered video streaming is the standard format on traditional live streaming video apps.
Adaptive bitrate
To accommodate viewers with varying network connections, Playback will automatically adjust the video resolution to match each viewer’s connection. Viewers can disable auto stream quality and choose a fixed resolution.
Network test
This is a good test to identify your network latency, jitter and packet loss: https://packetlosstest.com/. Choose the 720p preset in the Test Settings and a server located in your region.
